L&D WalkRound 2026

36 Young People, 100+ Miles, 1 Scout Group & £1,352 raised for 1 Charity in 1 Weekend.
Over the weekend of the 12th-13th September, Leire & Dunton Scout Group set out to walk the entire length of the Leicestershire Round long distance footpath over one weekend. This was partly for the challenge, partly to celebrate our 40th birthday, but also to raise money for a charity that is close to the heart of one of our Leaders – LOROS Hospice.
Between them (along with Leaders and Helpers), the Beavers walked just over 25 miles between Aston Flamville and Foxton Locks, the Cubs walked just over 25 miles between Foxton Locks and Burrough Hill, and the Scouts walked the remaining 50+ miles between Burrough Hill and Aston Flamville. The whole group camped overnight at John’s Lee Wood, playing wide games and singing songs (loudly) around the campfire.
The Young People have put in a huge amount of effort, and there were barely any grumbles from any of them. It was a feat of organisation and planning by the section Leaders, and the weekend was very well supported by parents and Helpers.
By the end of the weekend there were aching legs aplenty and many blisters. But everyone is over the moon with the amount we have managed to raise for such a worthy cause.
