Barnswood campsite near Leek in Staffordshire is ideally placed to camp at, and then hike to Gradbach campsite (a weekend camp we’ve tried and tested, spending the Saturday hiking, then the Sunday site seeing around Buxton). It’s also a great campsite on its own.
The only problem is that, at the moment, and for the foreseeable future, their rhododendron plants have a disease which means that all visitors must wash all traces of mud from boots, tents and tent pegs before leaving. This wasn’t the case when we visited a few years ago, and to be honest, we haven’t been back because of it. But worth bearing in mind for the future if they do get the disease cleared!
