Cornel campsite, Snowdonia
Cornel is in a fantastic, picturesque location for exploring Snowdonia. It’s in an isolated valley, overlooking a lake – Llyn Crafnant. It’s ideally situated for hiking around Snowdon, and for Plas-y-Brenin, the national mountain sports centre. It’s very easy to get to – only a few miles off the A5. The last couple of miles are a bit of a trial for larger vehicles though – a second gear hill from the village of Trefriw, then a couple of miles of single track road along the side of the lake. The peace and isolation at the end of it are worth it though.
It has a number of camping pitches, plus indoor accommodation, and a very good, modern toilet block. I’d recommend not camping on the lakeside though – we’ve camped at the site twice, once nearer the buildings, once on lakeside. The time we camped on lakeside our tents were destroyed by a surprisingly fierce wind which tore through the valley.
